Playing outside right now is a true test of the great outdoors. Weather is changing across the country and one early storm allows all of us to realize what we have and don’t have in our winter wardrobes.
Our first snow came a week ago and freezing rain and ice greeted us this morning. I quickly noticed what was missing from my little one’s closets. My oldest, at 5 1/2 started Kindergarten and Bend, OR schools allow kids to play outside rain/snow or shine down to 18 degrees! I think that’s amazing and wonderful to help kids realize that cold weather doesn’t mean hunker down and sit on the couch. It also means I need to prepare him for appropriate dress so he can stay warm and cozy.
So, Playoutdoors.com has it all. Base layers and thermal underwear in multiple price points, wonderful warm wool socks (a must for cold playground play); kids hats, gloves and snow rain and hiking boots. These of course can all fit, with his lunchbox and school supplies in his Dakine Scooler backpack.
It allows me to send him to school knowing he’ll be comfortable, healthier and of course looking great all day long.
Focusing on kids products and being experts is evident when looking at the product…more reason to join the Playoutdoors.com affiliate network…just in time for the holidays.
Thanks to all affiliates who posted our eco-challenge on their sites! I know it didn’t have a commission tied to it, as it was a contest, but it helped the environment and the communities around us!
The world is a little more green these days, thanks to the Grand Prize Winner of the Play Outdoors and diddit.com Eco Challenge—Congratulations, Katherine Jones of Frederick, Maryland!
Katherine gets to spend $300.00 at PlayOutdoors.com–it sounds like her grandnieces and grandnephews might just get a little Christmas “bonus,” thanks to Katherine’s commitment to making her little corner of the earth a bit greener.
Maybe she’ll focus on the products that are on sale up to 50% off including outerwear, from Patagonia, Spyder, Mountain Sprouts and 66° North; Swimwear by Speedo, Roxy, Quiksilver, SnapperRock and ONeill; Footwear by Teva and Kamik and Accessories of socks, hats, slippers, backpacks, sleeping bags and more!
How did she do it? Well, she started by plugging all of her appliances into surge protector strips, which she shuts off every times she’s not in the room or using them. Much easier to turn off one switch than six! We’re betting a lot less electricity is being used in the Jones household. But Katherine didn’t stop there; she’s just about done replacing all of the light bulbs in her home with energy-efficient CFL bulbs, and she’s even bought them for family members to encourage them to try them out.
We didn’t reward just one person though—Ellen Hiatt from Overland Park, Kansas came in second and that means a $150.00 Play Outdoors shopping spree for her! Ellen took the challenge outside even before we dared you all on diddit.com by joining the Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club, which does a yearly cleanup trip on one of the rivers in the Missouri Ozarks. Ellen told us how shocked she always is to see what people will throw into the water without regard for the wildlife and ecosystems (tires, appliances, and trash, among other things). She urges everyone to use trash sacks to pack out what you take in, and strap down all of your possessions when boating, rafting, or canoeing.
We’re still trying to notify our 3rd place winner–we don’t want to publish your name without your permission! But we’re sure you’ll enjoy your $75.00 shopping credit at Play Outdoors.
Congratulations to Katherine, Ellen, and ”#3″, and thank you to everyone who participated in the Eco Challenge. Keep it up on your own now that you’re inspired!
