We’ve been working for some time now on a project to allow affiliates to easily pull together all of the datafeed information, coupons, video ads, etc. – in other words, content – that we have at AvantLink.com. While we have tools and API modules for accessing all of that information separately, until now we’ve never had a simple, unified way of obtaining all relevant information for a given product. Well – now we do: the “Additional Product Content Widget” tool.

The Additional Product Content Widget uses JavaScript to give you access to all relevant product content on your web pages, including:

  • Details – A summary of information about the product, e.g. imagery, pricing, descriptions, etc.
  • Coupons – All text coupon ads from the merchant; such coupons that have been tagged by the merchant as relevant to this product are given precedence in the listing.
  • Reviews – Includes product reviews from merchant datafeed files and reviews collected by other AvantLink.com tools. Additionally, the ability for users to enter their own product reviews is included.
  • Videos – Displays videos that have been tagged by the merchant as related/relevant to this particular product (or the brand name or category of this product).
  • Comparison – Where possible we show the same or similar product entries from other merchants, so that users can do some price comparison between vendors.
  • Related – Using historical sales information from the merchant in question, we perform a lookup of products that customers frequently purchase in tandem with the requested product.

Not all products have all of the above content available for them. For instance, some merchants may not have any text coupons available, or there may be no videos associated with a given product. In such cases any mention/reference to that information will be automatically removed from the product content widget.

But enough talk, let’s seem some examples. First off, suppose you constructed a page on your site around one particular product – you might want to show all available content directly in the body of that page as in the following:

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket – from Backcountry.com Loading…

Alternatively (and likely more common) you may just want users to be able to view additional information about products from your site via a small pop-up window as in these examples:

If you’re using our raw datafeed file subscriptions or the ProductSearch API module, we’ve already given you a shortcut to access this functionality. Just look for the “Product Content Widget” field in your file or search results. That provides one line of JavaScript that you can include in your pages to load the necessary libraries and output a link to pop-up the widget as in the two examples immediately above.

Now, all of the examples you see here use our “default” version of the additional product content widget. But suppose you don’t like the size of the pop-up that is used, or the color scheme, or some of the verbiage that is used on the information tabs? Well, you can configure your own product content widget subscription to customize these very things.

Like what you see? Log into your affiliate account at AvantLink.com, go to the “Tools” page and look for the “Additional Product Content Widget” section for more details or to set up your own subscription.
